March 31st, 2010

Tonight my new friend Tomi and I left the men at home and went off to track down the perfect setting for tonight's picture. We were trying to find just the right rocks to show off golden reflections on the ocean. What a quick way to get acquainted, chasing a panoramic sunset before it gets away!

March 30th, 2010

Today I saw rain, hail, snow and blue skies. It's just one of the wonderful things about living up here on the coast. On the way to the Memorial I stopped for my sunset picture. The reality actually looked much better than the picture, but my little inexpensive camera can't capture some of the most delicate aspects. On the other hand, look what it can do!

For a while I entertained a happy notion that our SUNSET would work out. But by late afternoon thunder and hail combined to change my mind-set. That's OK, though; you don't think I only take one picture every night, do you? So I have a sunsets-for terrible-weather file, which comes in handy up here in Oregon.

No sunset today. But I took this picture on the way back from the circuit assembly in Crescent City on March 13. It was in the Yurok Indian area, just beautiful! A young man questioned us thinking we were lost, and I was happy to wave my camera at him and tell him we were checking out photos we just took. He was very pleased that we appreciated his home territory!

Tony said those thick gray clouds would never yield a sunset, while I maintained they certainly would! Well, as you can clearly see, I won!!! That tiny strip of pink is what I was betting on, even though it only lasted 5 minutes. And how absolutely great that we were there to see it.....

March 26th, 2010

Today was sunny and warm,( which means sweater weather up here.) The sunset was expected, but it's subtle and unique qualities were as enchanting as ever. The hardest part is choosing which picture to post tonight.

March 25th, 2010

All day long it was raining and overcast; the sun never came out! Until this evening. There was the tiniest pause when the sun pushed through raging clouds to form our sunset. The rain was pelting me even while I took this picture! I enjoyed every minute......

March 24th, 2010

Tonight it was raining so I'm just showing a picture I took last week. Hopefully tomorrow will bring us fair weather, clouds and lots of color!

March 23rd, 2010

I went to the ocean and took some OK pictures of the sunset. But on the way home I was coming across Hunter Creek, and that last rose-colored reflection caught my eye! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

March 22nd, 2010

Coming home from Coos Bay this evening we had fun trying to get a few different shots of the sunset as it progressed. There were lovely clouds in every direction except where the sun was going down; ( isn't that the way.......)

March 21st, 2010

Not really a lot of color here, but look at the contrast in those clouds! I was just grateful that it finally stopped raining long enough to add yet another lovely sunset to my diary.

March 20th, 2010

I tried to get a decent picture tonight, but heavy fog and drizzly rain just made it a miserable failure. Still, it was nice to try! So instead I substituted a version of the scene from last night, about 10 minutes later, when things had turned much more mauve.

March 19th, 2010

Our sunset tonight was viewed from one of Tony's favorite fishing spots at Indian Creek, on the south bank of the Rogue River. I'm relieved that the evening was mild, and finally felt like Spring!

This evening glow was cast by the sun right before it set; it was just enough to calm my soul, for a few precious minutes.

March 17th, 2010

My friend Pat and I almost got blown off the jetty taking this picture. It was fierce out there tonight! But these are the times we always remember the most fondly, aren't they.....

March 16th, 2010

Pistol River has some of the most beautiful ocean scenery on the entire coast, in my opinion. It's about 17 miles south of Gold Beach, and tonight it was certainly worth the drive!

March 15th, 2010

This subtle display was a calming conclusion to my day. I just enjoy being there, waiting to see the sunset take on a life of it's own, in it's own time.

March 14th, 2010

I was hopeful today when I saw a sky full of wispy, long-drawn-out clouds. So here is the resulting sunset; see what I mean?

This is a spot right below the Oregon border, only one in a cluster of equally gorgeous vistas. Views this spectacular are within driving distance and I intend to discover them all.....

Friday, March 12, 2010

Tonight more than compensated for the last 2 sunsetless evenings. Even as I drove home the lingering mauve and purple washes made me wish I had waited longer.

March 11th, 2010

It rained steadily today, so as a sunset was impossible, I'm showing you the route I take to the beach. We live up the hill on the left, come down, go across Hunter Creek (in the picture) to highway 101 which you can see at the top bridge.

March 10th, 2010

This particular sunset was of modest nature, just barely a whisper to the night.

Monday, March 8, 2010

March 9th, 2010

It was raining so hard this evening I had my doubts about seeing any sunset at all. But, as you can see, it was again worth the effort!

March 8th, 2010

Tonight it was windy and cold down on the beach, but Tony and I persisted till sunset. I knew there was nothing else I'd rather have been doing right then, for those few chosen moments......

March 7th, 2010

Today was one of those days, you know, when you don't feel so well, and it's gray outside, and it's easy to get depressed about nothing-in-particular. So I went down to see the sunset, and not a glimmer in the sky; it started raining before I got back to the car. I took a picture of the bridge instead, and it was just fine!

Hi Friends!
Such a lovely, crisp evening. Sea gulls waited with me while the sunset spread it's quiet beauty. I can't tell you how pleased I was to watch!

March 5th, 2010

Another day, another opportunity to enjoy a new sunset! Yesterday my husband joined me in my quest for just the right view; what a fun way to end the day....

March 4th, 2010

I find myself looking forward to sunset now, instead of usually letting it slip by so easily. (Although an alarm clock may always be a necessary nudge to my wandering mind.)

March 3rd, 2010

Today was busy, but the sunset is becoming a mindset. I finally am putting it as the priority it always should have been....

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Today was both hard rain and beautifully sunny, which happens often around here. It made me anxious to see what kind of sunset, (if any), there might be. Knowing that I'm going to get out of my routine enough to enjoy it and snap a picture is really different! So here it is:

Monday March 1st, 2010

This is my first official blog post. My goal is to take the time out of each day, to spend a few minutes enjoying the Oregon coastal sunset. Ten minutes w/my camera is all I need...

I'll be posting a photo of the sunset each night. Unfortunately, it was fairly foggy tonight, so it's not the most colorful of sunsets, but beautiful nevertheless.
