July 30th, 2010

I left a few minutes early so I could observe everything a little more leisurely, look at things more carefully. Like the brants, (large saltwater geese) and the harbor seals on the North bank, and the fishing boats coming in. Every one, man and animal, seemed slowed-down-and-enjoying-the-moment; or was it just me?

I missed the sunset tonight, but this is a later shot of the one posted April 13th: just a few minutes makes a huge difference!

Liquid lavender beneath a gilded sky. It's as if time hesitates, providing a last chance to observe what most people miss; our beloved sunset.

A beautiful evening....... with a florescent slash right through it!

July 26th, 2010

It's the beginning of salmon season, so a few people were busy at the fish-cleaning station. There is a whole covered structure to accommodate them; they looked very pleased with their business-at-hand. I, for my part, definitely preferred photographing this sunset!

July 25th, 2010

The sun went down quickly, into a persistent bank of fog that is still lingering on the horizon. The pelicans are here, though, and I spent some fun time trying to photograph them. How interesting! Then, as I was leaving, (after the whole sunset went gray) the Eastern sky lit up. This is the Gold Beach harbor, with the Patterson Bridge in the distance; just beautiful.....

Massive, dark clouds piled high, hovering over a descending sun, trying their best to conceal it's final rays..... Fortunately for us, they fail to hide our little glimpse of sunset!

July 23rd, 2010

We ate at a riverside restaurant with friends, watching the heavy fog roll upriver. While the evening was completely enjoyable, a sunset seemed out of the question. But, I said, "You never know..." On the way home we pulled over to the side of the road, just a quarter mile from the restaurant. And here's the reason why!

July 22nd, 2010

Tonight I wasn't in a position to take any sunset pictures, but it was my pleasure to review those extra sunsets. This is a photo taken March 12th, a few minutes later than the one I posted back then.

July 21st, 2010

Tonight I was invited to the Donleys for dinner, and Juanita just took it for granted that we would both grab our cameras afterward. When we went down to the harbor it was gratifying to see a few tiny clouds! As you can see, they made all the difference in our sunset!

The ridge we chose in Pistol River overlooks some of the Pacific's prettiest scenes; sunset just adds a finishing touch. Those rocks look as if someone placed them there, right where they belong!

The sight of all these babies getting ready to settle down for the night is one that never gets old. Sort of like when we peek at our children every night, after we tuck them in; reassuring......

Mostly, I try to do my shopping in
Brookings, OR, about 1/2 hour down the coast from us. So usually I only see this view in the light of day. How different it looks at sunset!

July16th, 2010

This is one of my extra sunsets, one that has been just waiting to be viewed! It's a refreshing reminder of what clouds can accomplish in a sunset.

July 15th, 2010

I was busy taking this picture while Tony and our nephew Kyle walked on the beach; they were finding sand dollars while I was watching them and our sunset! I'm posting the prettiest sunset, under the one with them down on the sand. See them waving?

This gull remains undisturbed by a woman hurrying to climb metal utility stairs in the back of a restaurant, intent on a certain sunset setting....He is letting those last moments of daylight absorb his attention, soothe his little feathers, overshadow any tendency towards flight. Just watching him helps me to slow down and.......stop!

July 13th, 2010

This is taken from up Tom Cat Hill, on the North side of town. Being as Gold Beach only has 2 stop lights, I'm trying to vary the view as much as I can......Though no matter where we get our sunset, each does seem to have it's own agenda!

July 12th, 2010

A cloudless sunset lets me concentrate more on the surrounding circumstances, not so much the sky itself. There's a lot to give attention to; raucous bird-cries, wave patterns and reflections, quiet time for myself. Just for starters....

July 11th, 2010

We were in downtown Medford, .....and not really any sunset. This is from last night, a little later than the one I posted. Another page turned in my Sunset Diary......

July 10th, 2010

The evening was gentle, summer-like. In the last 24 hours we have seen 2 baby skunks, twin spotted fawns, and quail with tiny round newborn chicks! We were busy picking out flowers for the front yard, and doing assorted summer-like things. The final concern focused on the sunset, where our summer sky was in complete harmony with the pleasant pursuits of the day.....

We went to observe our sunset with extra interest, since the fog has moved North. We weren't disappointed; the panorama unrolling across the sky was just calling for our appreciation! We then took our pictures up to the Anderson's, and spent the next hour on their deck enjoying their company and the view. So tonight I'll include an extra picture from their vantage point.

As soon as the meeting was over tonight I went out to the parking lot, (we are 1/2 block from the beach) but the heavy fog was still obliterating any sunset. So this is a lovely flashback from March. Actually I have another from that evening designated for tomorrow if the weather calls for it. To me the variation that can be seen in just one sunset is amazing!

July 7th, 2010

Tonight was a blanket of fog, so I dug out a photo from our March sunsets. This is Pistol River, which besides being extra-beautiful, is world famous for windsurfing and kiteboarding. They had an international event there a few weeks ago.

I ended up going alone to get my sunset picture, staying til the gold-pink faded into a smokey gray. It was just getting dark as I got home, and my bird was telling me "night-night", so we sang his lullaby together and I covered him. We do have our particular routines, don't we?

July 5th, 2010

Sometimes (lately) it is easy to dismiss cloudless nights and their subsequently tame sunsets. Sometimes I tend to think that it's the wildly exciting spectacle that's the more desirable thing. But no, all sunsets are individual gifts, a part of life as pertinent to our well-being as are all the rest of our blessings....

July 4th, 2010

Pat and I drove down to our favorite Sunset spot and enjoyed chatting away, both of us taking what pictures we could. Nothing was quiet tonight, between our laughing and the city's fireworks being set off! The sun-lit ocean is a beautiful setting for friends to "catch up", isn't it?

July 3rd, 2010

We did go down to see the Sunset, but we didn't wait because it was evident that not much could be expected, and I was really tired. So the challenge was to fill in with another night, one that probably had too much going on to record it all. During those glorious displays, each part of the merging colors is fascinating and something to save for a night like this.

I see a Puffy Gold Horizon behind a stately silhouette; if I ignore a freezing wind in midsummer, I can feel the Sunset instead....

July 1, 2010

Fog completely obscured any sunset tonight, but here is one from last night, the very last bits of color!
I had to stop and admire and take a picture on the way home, at Hunter Creek.
