August 31st, 2010

We are trying to eke out a little more summer up here in the Pacific Northwest. The nights are still comfortably sweater-weather, and there are more people out appreciating our sunsets lately. Particularly after all that fog!

August 30th, 2010

I got above the killer fog this evening, and saw some color I hadn't even dreamed could be hiding there....

Tonight was one of those times when I was grateful for such a compelling sunset, grateful that Tony felt like accompanying me. They are simple things, but I certainly felt like my needs were being met!

August 28th, 2010

We interrupted a scrabble game at 7:45, interested to find the bluest suggestion of a sunset! The clouds parted enough to expose this tranquil beauty.....

August 25th, 2010

The evening is warm and quiet, a soft respite.... from life.

August 24th, 2010

It's surprising how fast the days are going by, and how quickly I find myself taking another sunset picture! Not that I'm complaining...

August 23rd, 2010

Leaning against the bridge railing, I was extremely happy to watch our sunset from start to finish tonight. Now and then an suv or pickup would slow down or stop, thinking they would be blocking my picture, waiting till I waved them by. How sweet of them! And how enjoyable to be there in the middle of such beauty!

August 22nd, 2010

Pat and I got to the sunset in time to see it disappear behind the levee, turning the evening rose-gold while these two men came in with the day's catch. So peaceful....

August 21st, 2010

Tonight's sunset was totally impressive, a masterpiece from beginning to end. Time well spent.

August 20th, 2010

The soft puffy clouds that were supposed to guarantee a wonderful sunset were enveloped by fog at the last minute. We drove up to Pat's house to try to get high enough for a picture, and we just made it....

August 18th, 2010

Tonight I was at a digital camera class, but I did check out the sunset. Too much fog. So this is Pistol River, June 28th. It was a exceptionally refreshing summer night, and I took a plethora of pictures for times like this.....

August 17th, 2010

We were visiting with our friends next door when the sun started to go down, so Sharon and I hustled down to South Beach. Actually, there wasn't much in the way of color, but Sharon agreed with me that all sunsets are important! And we both delighted in the delicate beauty that was revealed under that heavy layer of fog.

This is an image that stays with you, long after the picture was taken and night has dissolved the sunset.

August 15th, 2010

There was no sunset this evening; I checked, but to no avail.....This is July, on a particularly "painterly-looking" occasion.

August 14th, 2010

The fog lets sun filter through as it's brief conciliation; we accept it as a legitimate sunset and duly record it in this diary.....

August 13th, 2010

All day long a thick fog covered the sky above the ocean, and by tonight it seemed exactly the same. I threw on my robe over my jeans and drove down around the hill to check, just in case. And, what-do-you-know! An unexpected break, just in time for our sunset!

August 13th, 2010

There was a sunset, I could tell when I drove home from meeting tonight. By then it was nothing but a dusky, a fading reminder of what I missed. So this is from March 6, one that begged to be posted!

Kissing Rock overlooks unique beach scenes, some of which come alive in even the vaguest of sunsets. Smooth reflections just emphasize the restless sea, and lend a little hush, a little sigh of relief, to complete the day....

August 10th, 2010

Isn't this an eerie cast over our Gold Beach Harbor? Within minutes this sunset softened with blues and pinks, but I'm pleased to have this moment recorded!

August 9th, 2010

This sunset underneath looming dark clouds is seriously breathtaking! Though the color is muted through the mist, it maintains a certain luminescence which I hope is captured here.

August 8th, 2010

The sunset this evening flowed against the horizon, giving us a concentrated glow in it's last flourish! Such beauty so available to us if we only pay attention.

August 7th, 2010

Nothing but fog, so I'm posting a lovely sunset admired on another occasion. This rose-warm, windswept sky quickly smoldered into ash-gray night....

August 6th, 2010

When we pulled over to get this picture there were several others who had already stopped. None of us could resist the sunset you see here!

August 5th, 2010

This seems like a classic sunset picture, one that speaks for itself....

August 4th, 2010

I missed the sunset tonight, so here is one from May; it was a night when the sea gulls were trying to get comfortable in the most awful icy wind. To look at it, it looks like a really nice, mild Spring evening, doesn't it?

August 3rd, 2010

We had fun having a brief visit with friends this evening. They were feeling a little under-the-weather, and it was nice to see them perk up and laugh for a few minutes. The sunset paled in comparison!

August 2nd, 2010

Tonight was mild and enjoyable as Pat and I watched the sun drop quickly into that all too familiar fog bank. From our elevated perch at South Beach, we relished a necessary interruption of a very harried day...

We are in Eureka, CA, still keeping track of our sunset. Tonight the clouds are on fire, if only for a few brilliant minutes!
