May 31st, 2010

We are still in Oakley, CA, visiting family and enjoying every minute! Tonight Tony is showing old videos of past camping trips; I can hear everyone laughing in the house while I'm out here in the 5th wheel posting my sunset. I'm pretty pleased with tonight's edition, especially the contrast of the industrial skyline. Somehow it adds a poignancy that would be hard to express in words....

We are visiting our family in Oakley, CA, and were able to drive a few miles to a vineyard to enjoy the sunset. To take those few minutes with my daughter was just what I needed tonight.....

Our pick-up broke down in Eureka CA, while pulling the fifth-wheel; waiting for a new transmission we camped out and this is one of the sunsets we recorded, but were not able to post until now. We were coming out of the mall, and I noticed the sky was aglow, so we drove around to the back parking lot. What a nice setting to end a frustrating day!

Tonight we could see a huge storm coming in, but the ocean was unusually calm. It wasn't windy, making it easy to wait on the jetty to see if the sun could break through all those dense clouds. Seals played right below us, always curious. The sunset lasted about 3 minutes, literally, but you can see how perfectly it reflected across the mouth of the Rogue River!

May 22nd, 2010

It's been almost 3 months that I've been watching the sunset, and now it is getting to be second nature to me. I don't usually need to set the alarm anymore, and I think to take the camera with me if I might not make it home before sunset. What a good habit to get into!

It really didn't feel that cold tonight, but the thunderheads were ominous, all but enveloping the smidgens of sunset. It wasn't much later that hail pounded our roof, just the start of the weekend storm ahead!

May 19th, 2010

The sea lions were barking and the sea gulls were restless before they settled down for the night. Tony got cold and went back to the car (to warm it up for me, he said...) and I stayed and took way too many pictures. Considering the st0rmy weather we are having, the sunset was quite respectable!

Sunset was lovely tonight; even though I have great pictures in my camera, I haven't been able to get them into the computer tonight. It is frustrating, but learning is one reason I'm doing this blog. Tomorrow I'll work on it, and until then I just happen to have another sunset you'll enjoy.

Tonight was foggy and rainy, but I waited to see if there was a chance of anything at all and there wasn't. But this is a good time to share a photo taken a few weeks ago when we were in Winston camping. These clouds eventually turned bright orange but this stage was intriguing, don't you think?

Tony was up river fishing this evening, so I went to Kissing Rock alone. Sometimes solitude while watching a sunset can put a person into a deep-thinking, what-life-is-all-about mood; tonight, no. It was sooo enjoyable to just remain in the present as I watched the brilliant gold melt into it's own distinctive personality. The more I pay attention, the more I realize how much I've been missing all these years by not making sunsets a priority.

I thought I had some good shots of the sun coming through heavy haze, but it wasn't until after it had disappeared that the really lovely color was evident. That violet reflection on still water is perfect!

Tonight I had a lot of trouble with the photo site, but finally was able to post this picture. It's worth the frustration when things finally come together, and I've recorded my 74th blog!

These two ospreys were hovering, actually keeping themselves almost still in the air, before they made their dives for fish. We enjoyed watching their activity, and also had to admire the sunset in the background. ( I never would have known what kind of birds if Tony wasn't there...)

May 12th, 2010

I took a ton of pictures tonight; it was interesting trying to get birds in flight, but they were not working with me at all! Taking advantage of an exceptional sunset, we stayed quite a while down on the docks. Gulls were settling down for the night and were generally concerned with getting fluffed up and comfy. As I stood freezing in that wind, I couldn't fault them for that!

May 11th, 2010

The killer wind made it hard to hold the camera still, but I sure had a great time battling it! There were several minutes of continuously gorgeous shots to take, so it felt wonderful to get back in the car where Tony had the heater running. And it felt just as wonderful to have been able to witness this beautifully radiant sunset at the close of another day.....

May 10th, 2010

No one was down walking on the beach, even though it's a mild evening, with no wind. Too bad, because they would have enjoyed this relaxing sunset. We sure did!

May 9th, 2010

The sky was full of storm-threatening clouds, but we waited to see how they might cooperate with our sunset. It finally relinquished a faint mauve tinge that lasted about 3 minutes. All of the lovely nuances, the different tone on tones, don't show up in my picture. But you can get the gist.....

May 8th, 2010

Looking at this sunset, I can't help comparing the almost-lake-like-quiet of the ocean to the wildly tumbling masses of clouds over it. What a bewildering gray contrast! And that's just how things are; some parts of life maybe going pretty smoothly while others are completely overwhelming.....with that little glimmer showing through...

May7th, 2010

After a leisurely dinner down at the Port Hole Cafe with Pat and Chad, the men went bike riding. That left Pat and me with just the right time-frame to grab our cameras for a Gold Beach Sunset! One important thing I've discovered about my evening routine is that sharing it with someone makes it even more fun. If someone is available......If not, it's still exactly what I want to do each evening.

May 6th, 2010

Tonight I won't be able to view the sunset because of my meeting, but this is from when we were camping in Grants Pass OR last week. We had gotten into a terrible position to take a picture; hills in the way, all the rose colored clouds in the wrong direction. But with a short race against time, we were able to see this much! And pass it on to you.....

May 5th, 2010

The time spent waiting for the sun to set is probably the most relaxing to me; probably it was designed for just that, at the close of the day. I wish everyone could have the opportunity to take advantage of that little interlude, that precious few minutes when the day's pressures are pushed aside to do nothing but enjoy!

May 4th, 2010

We'd just gotten home after a week of travel. I was very tired, but naturally I had to go check on the sunset! Once I got to the beach, I felt better just feeling the freezing wind and giving all my attention to that lovely spectacle....

May 3rd, 2010

This is taken from the hills of Arcada, CA, where we were visiting friends. Camellia kindly obliged my routine by driving me to several of her favorite places. We finally settled on this one, where we enjoyed each other's company and admired the quiet progression of our sunset.

May 2nd, 2010

This picture was taken in the Harris Beach area of Brookings, OR. We stopped along side 101 on the way home, totally awed by the Sunset display tonight! The valley over Roseburg way was beautiful, but it sure feels good to get back to the coast.....rain, wind, fog and all!
