April 30th, 2010

We are still in Winston, and did have an opportunity to track down another sunset. It was fun, especially having to get down in a farmer's ditch to avoid power lines in the picture! The sunset was subtle, due to rain clouds, but I expect a spectacular one tomorrow!

April 29th, 2010

We took this picture outside a local winery up here in Winston; the countryside is quite lovely. But- Whereas the coast is set up to view the sunsets, that is not the situation here. I'm afraid there might not be a lot of people who take the time to watch the sky at dusk. And that would be a shame, when you see what they might be missing!

April 28th, 2010

Tonight we are in Roseburg, OR; no ocean, no wind, no fog! The SUNSET was very different, I'm sure you'll agree. This was the very last of it, and I had a hard time choosing it.

April 27th, 2010

Picture rain as a semi-sheer curtain hung up between the sun and us. That's what we had tonight, and although it was just a small piece of Sunset, it qualified, didn't it?

April 26th, 2010

There was no hint of color in the storm that hit this afternoon. The good news is that I have the perfect-substitute-picture, one that is far removed from the havoc going on outside! It was taken March 13th, Smith River, coming home from the assembly. It really doesn't do justice to the actual view.....

April 25th, 2010

We went to Kissing Rock to see what tonight had to offer. The sunset was strikingly different; I thought that it was a gossamer-looking sky! When I looked up "gossamer", just to make sure I was right, it said "a fine film of cobwebs floating in the air." So, could I have said it better?

April 24th, 2010

Pat and I waited patiently on the ice-cold windy docks for the sun to go down. We had to laugh at our our own discomfort, but we never considered doing something warmer for that 1/2 hour. And as I post this sunset, I'm content with our joint endeavor.

April 23rd, 2010

It was hard to get the energy up to go check out the sunset tonight, but once we were in the car I got more enthusiastic. The heavy clouds complied by opening up just enough! Taking the time to appreciate this little bit of beauty is definitely worth the effort.....

April 22nd, 2010

Taking time to watch each sunset is getting to be such a satisfying habit; is there anything else I would be so happy to allow complete control over my heart for those precious few minutes? That has the power to stop a person from what ever he is doing, and remind him about what a little part of Creation he really is...

April 21st, 2010

The sky has been lovely all day today, so it seemed only right that the sunset should reflect all that loveliness. And it really did! There were just dozens of places to enjoy the view; so many gentle variations of color that I froze my fingers trying to catch even the last of them...

April 20th, 2010

The rain and wind were relentless today; I had little hope of anything else happening by evening. It got to be 7:30, and I headed out, just to make sure. It was still pouring, and as far as I could see , one huge bank of dense clouds. But as I rounded the hill, guess what? The start-of-a-perfect-SUNSET! Who knew!

April 19th, 2010

It's been raining off and on all day, but I was still anticipating a beautiful sunset, (you never know!) Tony came home just as I was leaving to go check to see if there was a photograph waiting for me. There wasn't, so we got a little pizza to share while I watched just to make sure. So this picture is a fill-in, one I've been waiting to use......

April 18th, 2010

Clouds were pretty dense again tonight, but I got to enjoy their reflection over a calm, silver sea. I can't imagine not keeping my appointment with the Sunset, with this serene twist of time, separating day from night.

April 17th, 2010

Mild weather attracted several of us to South Jetty tonight. Sea gulls stayed close by, no doubt used to seeing us Sunset contemplaters. We, in turn, were content to join them in watching the waves roll in on a soft ocean breeze, waiting......just watching and waiting .

April 16th, 2010

So tonight I had all kinds of trouble with my camera, the sun never gave any evidence of setting, and things in general were not going well. I ended up taking pictures of the absentee sunset anyway, and felt better for it. And I think it's worth sharing.....

Thursday, April 15, 2010

April15th, 2010

As I mentioned earlier, I won't be able to take my picture on Thursdays now; the sunsets are getting later and I'm at my meeting by then. So this is last night's, taken when the sun first started it's leisurely descent. Aren't the clouds beautiful in their own sultry way?

April 14th, 2010

Tonight we drove to the top of Brooks Hill for some fresh air and a seriously gorgeous sunset. I just loved being there to admire such an extravagant display, down to the very last tinge of color!

April 13th, 2010

Tonight Pat and Chad had dinner with us, and afterward we all went to the port to check out the sunset. Pat had her Olympus with her, and was ready for adventure! As it turned out, the sunset was superb. But the real fun was sharing the evening with best friends, laughing and freezing at the same time! And I have the Sunset Blog to thank for that.....

April 12th, 2010

Tonight Tony and I drove out to the jetty and waited to see if the immense slate-gray clouds might break, and nothing was happening. So we went to a roadside BBQ rib place and took a 1/2 rack back to the jetty and waited till all hope was gone. But there were about 20 Bufflehead ducks playing in the harbor, over where the water was only about 6 inches deep. Gold Beach entertainment to watch, while the rain pounded our windshield!

April 11th, 2010

No sunset today. But this wet weather is rich with promises that are already starting to appease us; Lush forest greenery, bushes of azaleas and rhododendrons just heavy with blossoms, mini- waterfalls streaming down our hillsides. I guess I can't complain!

Saturday, April 10, 2010

April 10th, 2010

Although today was sunny, by tonight the dark clouds and scattered rain left little hope for a colorful photo. But I dutifully watched the clock and kept my appointment with any potential sunset. See what I would have missed if I hadn't gone down around the hill to check?

Friday, April 9, 2010

April 9th, 2010

Tony and I took a leisurely drive up the coast tonight. As the sun started it's final descent we stopped looking for the perfect vista and started scrambling for just any spot to catch those last fleeting minutes! Such a refreshing way to end the day, laughing with each other in the frantic search for a place to park along those cliffs!

April 8th, 2010

Tonight I'm using a previous evening photo, and am glad to peruse them. Each has it's memories attached to it, even though I've only been doing this since March 1st. This is something I intend to keep doing, but for the time being I'll be substituting an extra picture on Thursdays. The sunset has been getting later and later, and I have meeting at 7pm.

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

April 7th, 2010

No rain today, but by evening huge gray clouds were taking over. People stayed out on the shore anyway, trying to prolong the good weather. As for me, I'm extremely satisfied with the opportunity to observe one more fascinating sunset.

Tuesday, April 6, 2010

April 6th, 2010

The rain is slowly subsiding, so tonight I had fun taking pictures down at the P0rt! There must have been 150 seals there watching me. It was such a pleasure to take my time, letting the sunset warm my spirit.

Monday, April 5, 2010

April 5th, 2010

Still raining and hailing...However, in spite of heavy fog and more rain, a fragile rose-glow appeared at the last. Just a fragment of a sunset, but absolutely perfect in itself!

Sunday, April 4, 2010

April 4th, 2010

It's probably no surprise that there is no sunset again tonight, just the darkest, thickest fog bank you can imagine. We had hail and snow today, which is very unusual here at sea level. So here is a recent picture of a more tranquil time......

Saturday, April 3, 2010

April 3rd, 2010

Heavy rains lingering into Spring; rough waves and piercing winds. Still, we get our gentle glimpses of lovely days ahead. Tonight it stopped raining just long enough for me to take this picture. It alludes to the sunset behind the fog bank, just out of reach.

April 2nd, 2010

We ate at the Port Hole restaurant this evening, celebrating with good friends in the cozy atmosphere. They helped me keep an eye out for any sign of color brewing in that icy gray sky. Nothing but rain, except for a quick little peek of pink; clutching my camera, I excused myself for a few minutes to admire another tranquil Sunset!

April 1st, 2010

It was a delight to watch this sunset display itself with it's usual eloquence. Especially knowing a storm's coming in. I don't really mind the weather we get here, but it is comforting to have little interludes like this to close a hectic day!
